I did a mural over the summer for the Chashama* Gala and After Hours Art Party. It was for the eloquent & talented Dolly Dharma and his poop puppet named Poppa, who was hanging out in the room next door. He extolled wisdom, sang songs, held court. “From the bowels of Hell!” Took parts of 2 days. I def had some trepidation doing a mural, had never done something like this, the scale, detail and with a limited time window. Just had to get in there and do it. Aaand I think I kinda crushed it? Dolly loved it, was super pumped, had such kind words. And now I’m pretty confident I can actually do whatever I want to do in this regard, and that is exciting. Learned a lot. Can’t wait to do another. There was like a hundred rooms like this, a whole floor of a midtown building, all sorts of other art related stuff and experiences, everybody doing their thing. Was super inspiring. AAAAART!
* Chashama is a NYC based arts organization helps create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world by partnering with property owners to transform unused real estate. These spaces are used for artists, small businesses, and for free community-centric art classes. I myself have an arts studio through Chashama at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, it is amazing. Such a great organization, I am very happy to be affiliated with them.
